In late June, federal authorities uncovered a large drug ring that was allegedly moving large amounts of cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin throughout San Antonio, according to MySanAntonio.com. Local and state officers, federal marshals and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents spread themselves out through Gonzales County in an effort to arrest at least 10 people who had been listed in a federal indictment. According to court records, the drug ring was making the drugs available San Antonio, Austin, Gonzales, New Braunfels and other towns within the region.
The case opened in April, after authorities raided a woman’s Gonzales apartment. It was reported that the woman, who was in her late 30s, was found with five packages of crystal meth, totaled over 500 grams. Authorities also found a package of heroin (amounting to more than 100 grams) in one of the closets. The woman, who is named in the indictment, was released on bail after her arrest. The court records also show that one of the defendants, a man who is originally from Gonzales, had been discovered with cocaine concealed in his car in May. Two other defendants included in the indictment, who are in their 20s, showed up in federal court, where they were ordered to be held without bail until their bail hearing the following week.
